Bavaria in southern Germany is one of the country's most romantic and scenic areas. Neuschwanstein Castle, built by the eccentric King Ludwig II in the mid 1800s, is perhaps the quintessential fairy tale castle built in the foothills of the Alps near the Austrian border, attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.
